FAQ

Can you recover my vault if I forget everything?

No. The vault is encrypted with keys derived from your master password or your recovery kit. We hold neither. That is the price of zero knowledge, and we say so from the moment the vault is created.

What exactly does the server see?

Your e-mail address, a hash of the authentication key, the public derivation parameters, encrypted blobs, the name and platform of your devices, and activity dates. No password, no content, no item name. See Local or Cloud.

Is Rempar free?

Local mode is free and complete. Cloud mode is a subscription with a 30-day trial. See pricing.

What happens when the subscription ends?

Sync stops, nothing else. The vault remains complete and usable on every device. You can switch back to local mode or subscribe again.

Is 2FA mandatory?

Recommended for all Cloud accounts, mandatory for Rempar administrators. It works with Google Authenticator and any TOTP application. See Google Authenticator 2FA.

Can I import from another manager?

CSV import and import from .rempart exports are being finalized. The 1Password, Bitwarden and KeePass formats will follow.

Can I export my data?

The encrypted .rempart export protects the file with your master password. A plain-text CSV export will be offered with an explicit warning.

Where are the servers?

In the European Union. Backups are encrypted and kept for 30 days.

Does Rempar work offline?

Yes, always. The vault is local. Sync resumes on reconnection.

Are screenshots blocked?

On Android, yes (FLAG_SECURE). On iOS and macOS, the system does not allow it; Rempar hides its content in the app switcher and hides secrets again after 30 seconds.

How do I report a security issue?

security@rempar.org. Response within 48 hours.

Why does "rempart" appear in technical strings?

The product was called Rempart before it became Rempar. The protocol strings (rempart/...) and the application identifier are frozen so that an existing vault is never broken.
