Getting started

Rempar is the vault for sensitive access credentials: SSH servers, mailboxes, websites, keys, tokens and crypto wallets. Everything is encrypted on your device before it is saved. This page takes you from installation to your first item.

Install

Platform File Installation
macOS 12+ Rempar-x.y.z.dmg Open the DMG and drag Rempar into Applications. Signed with a Developer ID.
iOS 15+ App Store Coming soon.
Android 8+ Rempar-x.y.z.apk Allow installation from this file, then open it.
Linux x64 Rempar-x.y.z-linux-x64.tar.gz tar xzf, then ./install.sh. Installs into ~/.local/opt/rempar with a desktop launcher.
Windows 10+ Coming soon.

The files are available on rempar.org/download with their SHA-256 checksum.

Create your vault

  1. Choose the storage mode: Local (an encrypted file on this device) or Cloud (synced across your devices, subscription). You can change it later.
  2. Choose a master password. The application requires at least 60 bits of entropy and shows the gauge in real time. See Master password.
  3. Keep the recovery kit. Thirteen groups of four characters, shown only once. Print it or write it down offline. See Recovery kit.
  4. In Cloud mode, enter your e-mail address and the code you receive, then enable Google Authenticator 2FA.

Without the master password or the recovery kit, nothing can be recovered. Nobody can reset your vault, not even us.

Add a first item

Tap + and choose a category. For an SSH server: name, host, port, user, then a password or a private key. Secret fields are hidden by default. See Item categories.

Everyday gestures

  • Reveal a secret: eye button. It is hidden again after 30 seconds.
  • Copy: the clipboard is cleared after 30 seconds, and the countdown is visible.
  • Lock: Cmd+L (macOS) or Ctrl+L, sleep, closing the application, or 5 minutes of inactivity.
  • Unlock: master password, or Touch ID, Face ID, fingerprint.

Layouts

Below 600 px wide, a tab bar: Vault, Generator, Health, Settings. Between 600 and 839 px, a rail on the left and the list. From 840 px, three panes: categories, list, item details.
